Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park

Melbourne's award-winning wildlife park invites you to come and visit and get an up-close look at Australia’s amazing animals.

Explore the bush-land while feeding kangaroos and wallabies, petting friendly koalas and enjoying encounters with colourful birds, reptiles, dingoes and many other animals including endangered species. More than 70 Australian species are waiting to meet you at Moonlit Sanctuary.

Just 50 minutes from central Melbourne, Moonlit Sanctuary is the ideal place to learn more about the fascinating animals that call Australia home with their free keeper presentations and shows every 30 minutes.

Puffing Billy Railway

Step back in time at Australia's favourite steam train: Puffing Billy, located in the Dandenong Ranges. Puffing Billy is one of the finest preserved steam railways in the world.

Puffing Billy Railway is a major tourist attraction and incites visitors to come and experience a century-old tradition. Ride in the open sides carriages as the historic steam trains continue to run on their original 24km mountain track between Belgrave and Gembrook, in the natural surrounds of the magnificent Dandenong Ranges.

Start at Belgrave

Belgrave Station is the headquarters of the Railway and only a short walk from the Belgrave Township and Metro train station.

After boarding, Puffing Billy chugs away and you and your family can take in the spectacular scenery of the beautiful Sherbrooke Forest, a superb temperate rainforest with native ‘Mountain Ash’ trees. Within minutes, you will cross Puffing Billy’s most famous landmark – the iconic Monbulk Creek trestle bridge.

Penguin Parade

Phillip Island Nature Parks is a premier destination for nature-based wildlife experiences.

The Summerland Peninsula in the south-west of Phillip Island is home to an estimated 32 000 little penguins - one of the largest colonies in Australia. The Penguin Parade represents approximately 10 per cent of the colony. Each night at sunset, little penguins (numbering in the hundreds or thousands depending on the season) make the march across the beach and return to their burrow homes in the sand dunes. Revenue raised through tourism activities is invested into conservation activities to protect the whole colony.

The main penguin viewing area at Summerland Beach has tiered seating and provides a 180 degree elevated viewing of the Little Penguins on parade. Watching them arrive and waddle across the beach to their sand dune burrows at sunset is a magical experience for all. Visitors can also enjoy Little Penguins around their burrows from elevated timber boardwalks.

*Please note: Penguins have sensitive eyes and a bright, sudden flash or unusual light can frighten or disorientate a penguin. To ensure penguins keep coming back to this special area, please do not use cameras, camcorders or camera phones at the Penguin Parade.
