2 Overview

Travel to the picturesque mountain retreat of Kuranda Village, just 25 kilometres northwest of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia. Kuranda is a vibrant little town surrounded by World Heritage Rainforest. Historic buildings from the village's past now house a variety of upmarket restaurants, cafes and bars. It is still laid back, but with a style and sophistication that sets it apart from other venues and attractions in Cairns.

This full day adventure to Kuranda, located in World Heritage Rainforest. Your experience includes a visit to the award-winning Rainforestation Nature Park, where you can take a tour on a historic World War II Army Duck, as well as cuddle a koala and feed a kangaroo in the Koala & Wildlife Park. Visit the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience including boomerang and spear throwing and traditional Aboriginal dances, and enjoy a tropical lunch. You will enjoy the Kuranda Scenic Railway and the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway as part of your transfers.

 

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is the largest butterfly flight aviary and exhibit in Australia.

Home to over 2,000 magnificent tropical butterflies including the striking blue Ulysses and majestic green Cairns Birdwing, the sanctuary is an all-weather experience in the heart of Kuranda.

You'll be enchanted by these elusive wonders of nature as you wander through the aviary's boardwalks and gardens with a picturesque rainforest backdrop.

Our knowledgeable guides will take you through the aviary and our breeding laboratory, detailing a butterfly's life cycle and its behaviour. Be sure to wear something bright and let these beautiful creatures flutter all over you!

Wind through tunnels and over bridges on this magnificent journey, passing Stoney Creek and Barron Falls.

Arrive Kuranda Railway Station

On arrival, please make your way straight up to the coach parking area. Food, drinks and toilets are only 5 minutes away. Your Driver Guide will meet you and direct you to your coach for your transfer to the village. Browse through the many shops and local markets, which offer a full range of local handicrafts, souvenirs and gifts.

Enter Australian Butterfly Sanctuary.

Marvel at the largest butterfly flight aviary in the country, with a guided tour through the landscaped gardens. View hundreds of butterflies including the famous electric blue Ulysses and Australia's largest butterfly, the Cairns Birdwing. (Any other entries or expenditures in Kuranda Village are at own expense.)

The 7.5km Skyrail journey takes 30 – 40 minutes, however we recommend you spend time at the two stations enroute: Red Peak Station and Barron Falls Station.
