Check-in requirements Please arrive at the ticket office 30 minutes prior to the departure time to exchange for boarding pass before proceeding to the boarding terminal. Regrettably, failure to arrive before this time will most likely be classified as no-show and result in forfeiting the booking and it cannot be refunded or transferred.

If you are not familiar with the area or travelling on a weekend or local public holidays / school holidays, please make sure you've checked your timetable or driving route beforehand, and allow extra travelling time for unexpected delays to ensure you do not miss your check in

Travel on Skyrail and associated touring components must be completed on the same day. Components cannot be spilt for travel on separate days.

● Please check the Service Providers' official websites for scheduled maintenance and closures before purchasing

● If you are self-driving, please park and check-in at Skyrail’s Smithfield Terminal (including self-drivers commencing with Kuranda Scenic Railway). A one-way transfer between Smithfield Terminal and Freshwater Railway Station is included in your self-drive package.

● Freshwater Railway Station (Kuranda Scenic Railway) is approximately 7km from Skyrail’s Smithfield Terminal so you will need to make your own way back to Smithfield Terminal if you parked your car there.

[Skyrail Rainforest Cableway]
● Standard gondolas carry up to a maximum of 6 guests and Diamond View carry a maximum of 5 guests. Both options include children and infants.

● All gondola travelling timings are dependant on cableway operational constraints and maybe longer than these stated times.

● You can spend as much time at you like at Skyrail’s rainforest mid-stations enjoying the facilities and rainforest atmosphere.

● For the protection of the environment smoking and the consumption of food and drink is prohibited in all gondolas. Eating and drinking is allowed at all of Skyrail’s Terminals and Stations.

● Day packs and fold up strollers can be taken on Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Luggage is not permitted on the cableway or bus transfers. Small coin operated lockers are available at Smithfield (Cairns) Terminal (subject to availability and at own risk).

[Kuranda Scenic Railway]
● Gold Class is available on the 09:55 departure from Freshwater Railway Station to Kuranda and the 15:30 departure from Kuranda to Freshwater Railway Station.

● The Gold Class service is not available between Freshwater Railway Station and Cairns Central Railway Station.

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway takes you on a fascinating journey of discovery over and deep into Australia’s Wet Tropics World Heritage listed rainforest.
Glide mere metres above the pristine rainforest canopy before descending to explore the forest floor at Red Peak and Barron Falls.
Enjoy complimentary ranger guided tours, the Rainforest Discovery Zone, The Edge Lookout, the Historical Precinct and the CSIRO Rainforest Interpretation Centre to fully immerse yourself in the unique sights, sounds, smells and feel of the rainforest.

Kuranda Scenic Railway

Board the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway as it meanders its way between Cairns and Kuranda.
Opened in 1891, this famous railway ascends from the coastal plains of Cairns through Freshwater Railway Station and on to Kuranda, the Village in the Rainforest, some 328 metres (1,076 feet) above sea level.
Your historic journey in fully refurbished vintage carriages includes English commentary and a short photo opportunity stop at Barron Falls.

    • Gondola Travelling Time: approximately 12-14 minutes
    • Distance: 3.1 kms
    • At Barron Falls Station: Rainforest Interpretation Centre, lookouts, historical display. Plan to spend approximately 20-30 minutes.
  • Barron Falls Station - Kuranda Terminal
    • Gondola Travelling Time: approximately 7-8 minutes
    • Distance: 1.7 kms

Planning Your Trip
  • Bus transfers are available from selected Cairns, Beaches and Port Douglas locations. Please select and book the product with bus transfer if needed.
  • A one-way Skyrail journey takes approximately 1 ½ hours including time spent exploring Red Peak and Barron Falls. Allow 2 ½ hours for a round trip experience. Skyrail can be combined with the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway for a half or full day experience.
  • First Skyrail departure is at 08:45, the last round trip experience departs at 14:45 from Smithfield or Kuranda and the last one-way experience departs at 15:45.
  • Skyrail Gondolas depart continuously throughout the day and bookings are made in 15 minute intervals.
  • Skyrail Gondolas carry a maximum of 6 people in a standard gondola and a maximum of 5 people in Diamond View (including infants).
  • A one-way Kuranda Scenic Railway journey takes approximately 1 ½ hours.
  • You can start with either Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or Kuranda Scenic Railway.
  • Morning Kuranda Scenic Railway trains depart from Freshwater Railway Station to Kuranda at 8:55am and 9:55am.
  • Afternoon Kuranda Scenic Railway trains depart from Kuranda to Freshwater Railway Station (continuing to Cairns Central Railway Station) at 2:00pm and 3:30pm.
  • Morning departures are from Freshwater Railway Station only and are not available from Cairns Central Railway Station.
